Insects play an important role as pollinators, and they’re also an important part of our collections. The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House is home to an ever-changing collection of butterflies, beetles, and other insects — along with spiders and scorpions, which are members of the arachnid family. Our living collection of insects is wild-collected by staff in some cases. Many of our butterflies come to us as pupae from a sustainable butterfly farm in Central America.
