The Garden’s Herbarium is one of the world’s outstanding research resources for specimens and information on bryophytes and vascular plants. The collection has almost 7 million specimens, and most of these are the pressed and dried vouchers typically associated with herbaria. But it also includes a collection of preserved plant material used for DNA banking, and liquid-preserved specimens often used to keep plant parts like flower structures in tact. The herbarium collection is used by researchers to help identify and describe new species.
